Photo Retouching

At Advantus, ensuring high-quality retouching on product photos is essential. Retouching eliminates imperfections, such as blemishes or inconsistencies, which can detract from the product’s appeal. By presenting flawless images, we can create a positive first impression, instill consumer confidence, and enhance the overall desirability of our products. High-quality visuals not only attract potential buyers but also reinforce the brand’s commitment to excellence and reliability, ultimately driving higher conversion rates and customer satisfaction

Often, the images we use for quick presentations end up on customers’ websites. Therefore, it’s crucial to ensure that every image we share is of the highest quality.

Photo Retouching Process:

All retouching is to be completed in Photoshop and Lightroom

  1. Assessment:
    • Evaluate the photo to identify areas that require retouching, such as dust, scratches, manufacturing imperfections, fingerprints and dirt or color inconsistencies.
    • Understand the Brand’s preferences and desired outcome for the retouched image.
  2. Basic Adjustments:
    • Make basic adjustments to enhance overall image quality, including exposure, contrast, and color balance.
  3. Product Retouching:
    • Use tools like healing brushes or clone stamps to remove imperfections, blemishes, dust and scratches.
    • Maintain a natural look by avoiding excessive smoothing that can result in an artificial appearance and removal of product textures.
    • Fix product distortion with Warp, Puppet Warp, and Liquify tools
    • Pay attention to reflections and make sure neither the photographer nor the surroundings are visible
    • Zoom in! Many websites offer a zoom feature on product images, so be sure to inspect the product closely for any flaws.
    • Be mindful of trademarked names and factory information in samples and remove them whenever possible.
  4. Frequency Separation (Optional):
    • Apply frequency separation for more advanced retouching.
    • Separate texture and color information to work on each independently for finer control.
  5. Dodge and Burn:
    • Use dodging to lighten areas and burning to darken, adding dimension and emphasis to specific features.
    • Focus on enhancing highlights and shadows to create a balanced and realistic effect.
  6. Color Correction:
    • Adjust and balance colors to ensure a cohesive and realistic overall tone.
    • Correct any color casts or tint issues present in the original photo.
  7. Clipping And Product Crop
    • Create a clipping path isolating the product from background.
    • Trim the image, leaving a 20% margin beyond the product’s edges.
    • Center the isolated product
  8. Background Cleanup (Optional):
    • Remove distracting elements or imperfections from the background.
    • Ensure a clean and polished look without compromising the image’s integrity.
  9. Final Adjustments:
    • Fine-tune overall image sharpness, saturation, and contrast.
    • Evaluate the retouched photo against the client’s specifications and competitors.
  10. Comparison and Review:
    • Compare the retouched image with the original and the client’s reference, ensuring that all requested changes are implemented.
